Vertex primarily depended on Oracle Transportation Management (OTM) for logistics execution, but the standard OTM setup presented significant limitations. The out-of-the-box OTM UI was rigid and not friendly for frequent users such as logistics partners and carriers. Introducing custom business logic or workflows was difficult and costly due to OTM’s limited flexibility. The client also struggled with enabling a mobile-friendly experience, as the traditional OTM interface lacked responsiveness for tablets and mobile devices. With growing shipment volumes and the operational need for real-time visibility, the existing tools slowed down user workflows. Creating or updating shipments required multiple clicks, complex navigation, and limited automation. Bulk shipment operations were inefficient, often requiring manual intervention by internal teams. Vertex clearly needed a modern, user-intuitive portal that masked the complexity of OTM and brought agility, automation, and speed to their logistics operations.
Faramond’s Oracle VBCS and OIC experts conducted a detailed analysis of the business flows, logistics partner pain points, and OTM transaction patterns. The objective was to design a modern, responsive, and scalable portal that streamlined interactions with OTM while maintaining compliance with Vertex’s governance, security, and audit requirements. Leveraging the full Oracle PaaS spectrum—including VBCS, OIC Integrations, PCS for workflows if needed, ATP for metadata storage, IDCS for secure access, and OTM REST APIs—Faramond architected a complete digital layer on top of OTM to simplify operations without touching the OTM core.
Faramond built a custom VBCS-based digital portal tightly integrated with Oracle OTM using secured REST APIs. The portal allowed shipment creation, updates, product/item management, order-based shipment generation, and real-time tracking—wrapped in a clean, user-friendly UI optimized for desktop, tablet, and mobile use. The system allowed logistics partners to create shipments in significantly fewer steps, with validations, pre-filled data, and smoother workflows. Bulk shipment creation was redesigned to use OTM data fetched via API calls, allowing users to execute high-volume operations with accuracy and speed. A new dashboard, powered by OIC integrations and OTM data, enabled real-time shipment status visibility, KPI monitoring, and alerts. The portal’s architecture ensured upgradability by isolating all enhancements from OTM, eliminating future upgrade risks.
Partner onboarding and daily operations became significantly faster due to the intuitive portal UI. Shipment creation times dropped by over 60%, falling from 8–10 minutes in OTM to just 2–3 minutes using the new portal. Bulk shipment operations became simpler and scalable, improving throughput and operational efficiency. Real-time dashboards enhanced visibility across the logistics chain, reducing dependency on the internal team for updates. Overall productivity increased by nearly 80% because of simplified workflows, automation, and mobile-first accessibility. With the portal fully decoupled from OTM, the client ensured long-term sustainability, simpler maintenance, and easy extensibility for future business needs.
